Filming Lives, Framing Futures

Our mission is to redefine how family stories are told.

Our purpose

Prima Persona is a feature documentary studio for families. Through cinema, we help families discover the depth of a loved one’s life, celebrate all they have built, and bring generations closer to the people who shaped them.

“Nothing renders a person as whole, or as authentic, as a well-crafted film. Prima Persona turns prestige filmmaking toward a singular private life instead. Every film is crafted by a team of award-winning industry veterans, from the first question to the final cut. We make them so that families get to see themselves on the screen: a life given the full weight and depth of cinema. Your story has earned that.”

Years ago, for my thesis film at Princeton, I turned my camera toward my grandmother. What began as a simple documentary became the most meaningful thing I have made. It gave my family something irreplaceable, and I have made narrative and documentary films ever since hoping to give other families the same.

A letter keeps someone’s words and a photograph keeps their face. A film keeps all of it: their real voice, and the way they move, react and carry themselves. That is what I make for families: a film in which they see one of their own on the screen, a life given the full weight of cinema.

After studying filmmaking at Princeton, I spent three years scripting, filming and editing educational videos for millions of viewers across the U.S. and China. They taught me audience hospitality: making strangers feel at ease with you at once, the ethos I bring to every interview.

Our conversations are relaxed and low pressure, an enjoyable afternoon for even the most reserved family member, and a quiet space for generations to reflect on a shared lifetime.
